If you need to record sound from the line-in, from a microphone, the music played by Winamp, streaming audio from the web, or sound from other sources, Any Sound Recorder is the application for you. As its name suggests, this application will record any sound. On top of that, it plays audio files and comes with some editing functions.

The Any Sound Recorder installation file is a lightweight 1.5MB. Installing the application on your Windows PC takes just as little time as it takes to download a 1.5MB file. A simple setup wizard will guide you through the whole process.

Any Sound Recorder comes with an interface that is typical for applications of this type. At the top you have buttons for various functions, in the middle there’s a large pane that displays the audio file you’ve got open, and at the bottom there are big buttons for playing, pausing, stopping audio playback and a button for starting a recording. A Record Wizard entry is available in the Play&Record menu; it briefly presents the steps you must take to start recording sound with the Any Sound Recorder application.

If you like to do things yourself, you can manually start a recording. But there are times when you don’t want to do that or you just can’t do that. This is where Any Sound Recorder’s schedule functions come into play: you can set it up so that the application will automatically start recording.

You can save sound recorded with Any Sound Recorder as an MP3, WAV, OGG, or AU file. You can also edit sound recorded with the Any Sound Recorder application: cut, trim, apply effects, change the bit rate, and more. Of course, you can also open audio files you already have on your computer, play them, and edit them if you so desire.

Any Sound Recorder is only free to try: the trial version does not record for more than 60 seconds.

It is quite easy to record sound from various sources with Any Sound Recorder. You can then edit the recording and save it as one of several audio formats.

Pros

You will spend little time on downloading and installing Any Sound Recorder on your Windows PC. If you have ever used another application of this type, you will immediately feel at home using the interface. Record sound, play audio files, edit audio files. There’s a handy schedule function.

Cons

The trial version is limited to 60-second recordings.
